The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 4:02 p.m. in room 9 of the Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Fortin-Duplessis, Losier-Cool, Maltais, Mockler and Robichaud, P.C. (6).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament, and David Charbonneau, Communications Officer, Senate Communications.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the committee continued its study on the use of the Internet, new media and social media and the respect for Canadians' language rights. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Public Service Commission:

Anne-Marie Robinson, President;

Hélène Laurendeau, Senior Vice-President, Policy Branch;

Gerry Thom, Vice-President, Staffing and Assessment Services.

Association of Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities:

Louis Tétrault, Executive Director.

Ms. Robinson made a statement and, along with Mr. Thom and Ms. Laurendeau, answered questions.

At 4:58 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:03 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Tétrault made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:55 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
