The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 6:12 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Hubley, MacDonald, Manning, Oliver, Patterson, Poirier and Raine (7).

In attendance: Claude Emery, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; and Karen Schwinghamer, Acting Manager, Media Relations and Communications Services, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 20, 2011, the committee continued its study on the management of the grey seal population off Canada's East Coast. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Seal Hunters Association of the Magdalen Islands:

Denis Longuépée, President;

Gil Thériault, Director;

Ghislain Cyr, Member.

Mr. Thériault made a statement and, together with Mr. Longuépée and M. Cyr, answered questions.

At 8:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
