The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, at 4:01 p.m. in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Mobina Jaffer, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Brazeau, Carignan, Harb, Hubley, Jaffer, Ngo, White and Zimmer (9).
In attendance: Julian Walker and Martha Butler, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 15, 2012, the committee began its examination pertaining to the human rights of First Nations band members who reside off-reserve, with an emphasis on the current federal policy framework.

The chair made an opening statement.
Ms Badet, Ms. Connors and Ms. Touchette each made a statement and together answered questions with Mr. Broughton, Ms. Ducros, Mr. Tallman and Ms. Kustra.
At 6:03 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:35 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Sutherland, Ms. Darke and Ms. Sadana each made a statement and together answered questions with Ms. Israel and Mr. Doidge.
At 7:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
