The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Campbell, Cordy, Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Martin, Munson, Ogilvie, Raine, Seidman, Seth and Verner, P.C. (11).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, the committee continued its study on prescription pharmaceuticals in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health:

Dr. Brian O'Rourke, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences:

Dr. Paula Rochon, Senior Scientist.

As an individual:

Dr. Stuart MacLeod, Professor, Child and Family Institute, University of British Columbia.

The chair made a statement.

Dr. O'Rourke, Dr. Rochon and Dr. MacLeod each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 12:09 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
