The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:03 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Donald Plett, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Day, Nolin and Plett (3).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Di Nino and Mitchell (2).

In attendance: Martin Auger, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, and delegated on Monday, October 3, 2011 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to members of the Canadian Forces; to veterans; to members and former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and their families. Christopher Smillie, Senior Advisor, Government Relations and Public Affairs, Building Construction Trades Department (BCTD).

Messrs. Smillie and Roberts each made a statement and, together, the witnesses answered questions.

At 1:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
