The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met in camera this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Black, Gerstein, Greene, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Maltais, Massicotte, Ringuette, Tannas and Tkachuk (10).
In attendance: Adriane Yong and Michaël Lambert-Racine, Analysts; June Dewetering, Chief, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, the committee continued its study on the use of digital currency. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)
It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room and that BlackBerrys and cellular phones not be used.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee continued its consideration of a draft report.
It was agreed that draft documents pertaining to the report be circulated to members electronically and encrypted as they become available.
At 12 p.m., the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that the committee would meet outside its normal meeting times for the purpose of dealing with the subject matter of Bill C-59.
At 12:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
