The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:14 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Enverga, Hubley, Manning, McInnis, Munson, Poirier, Raine, Stewart Olsen and Wells (10).
In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Clare Backman, President;
Ruth Salmon, Executive Director.
Mr. Backman and Ms. Salmon made statements and answered questions.
At 6:44 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:50 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that the committee invite the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and two other Members of the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador to appear on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, to address Fisheries and Oceans Canada's application of the ``Last In, First Out'' (LIFO) policy in relation to the issue of the northern shrimp allocations.
At 7:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
