The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera this day at 5:30 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Baker, P.C., Lovelace Nicholas, Manning, McInnis, Meredith, Munson, Poirier, Raine, Stewart Olsen and Wells (10).

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed:

That arrangements be finalized for the committee's fact-finding mission to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Québec and that witnesses be invited public hearings in Moncton, New Brunswick, as outlined in the program distributed to members prior to the meeting.

It was agreed:

That a budget application for an additional fact-finding mission to St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, be prepared by staff for review by the Committee on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

It was agreed:

That senior departmental officials from Fisheries and Oceans Canada be invited to appear before the committee on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, with regard to a user fee proposal for aquaculture licensing fees under the Pacific Aquaculture Regulations referred to the committee on October 1, 2014, and on proposed aquaculture regulations pertaining to substances that may be deposited or released into the water from aquaculture sites.

At 5:57 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
