The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day, at 4:01 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Day, Lang, Mitchell, Nolin, Wells and White (7).
In attendance: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, the committee continued its study on Canada's national security and defence policies, practices, circumstances and capabilities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces:
Brigadier-General Jean-Marc Lanthier, Commander 2nd Canadian Division (Montreal);
Brigadier-General Omer Lavoie, Commander 4th Canadian Division (Toronto).
The chair made an opening statement.
Brigadier-Generals Lavoie and Lanthier each made a statement and together answered questions.
At 4:55 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
