The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Coyle, Doyle, Dyck, Francis, LaBoucane- Benson, Lovelace Nicholas, MacDonald, McCallum, McPhedran, Ngo, Pate, Patterson, Plett and Tannas (15).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Sinclair (1).
In attendance: Brittany Collier and Marlisa Tiedemann, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 16, 2019, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-262, An Act to ensure that the laws of Canada are in harmony with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The chair made a statement.
Mr. Borrows and Mr. Nichols each made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:43 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:48 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Barelli and Mr. Joffe each made a statement and answered questions.
At 8:38 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:42 p.m., the committee resumed in camera, pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 2, 2019, to continue its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Division 25 of Part 4 of Bill C- 97, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 19, 2019 and other measures.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report (drafting instructions).
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for the in camera portion of the meeting.
It was agreed to permit the transcription of the in camera portion of today's meeting, that one copy of the transcript be kept with the clerk for consultation purposes, and that the copy be destroyed at the end of the current parliamentary session.
At 9:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
