The Special Senate Committee on the Charitable Sector met in camera this day at 9:45 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Terry M. Mercer, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black (Ontario), Martin, Mercer, Omidvar and Seidman (5).
In attendance: Havi Echenberg and Nicole Sweeney, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; and Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, the committee continued its study on the impact of federal and provincial laws and policies governing charities, nonprofit organizations, foundations, and other similar groups; and to examine the impact of the voluntary sector in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.
It was agreed:
That the draft report on the committee's study on the impact of federal and provincial laws and policies governing charities, nonprofit organizations, foundations, and other similar groups; and the impact of the voluntary sector in Canada be adopted, as amended, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to approve the final version of the report taking into account any changes discussed today as well as grammatical or editorial changes; and
That the chair be authorized to table the amended report in the Senate, at the earliest opportunity.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 11:08 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
