The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 8:33 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Marc Gold, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Coyle, Gold, McInnis, Poirier, Raine and Ringuette (7).
In attendance: Odette Madore, Danièle Lafrance, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 14, 2016, the committee continued its study on Maritime Search and Rescue activities, including current challenges and opportunities. Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan Nelles, Senior Staff Officer, Search and Rescue, 1 Canadian Air Division (by video conference);
Lieutenant-Colonel Leighton James, Commanding Officer, 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron (8 wg Trenton) (by video conference);
Major Myrian Lafrance, Officer in charge, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton (by video conference).
The deputy chair made a statement.
Major-General Seymour made a statement and, together with Lieutenant-Colonel Nelles, Lieutenant-Colonel James and Major Lafrance, answered questions.
At 10:02 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
