The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 10:03 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Carignan, P.C., Dagenais, Jaffer, Kenny, Lang and White (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Day (1).

In attendance: Katherine Simonds and James Lee, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 21, 2016, the committee continued its study on issues related to the Defence Policy Review presently being undertaken by the government. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)

Major-General Jean-Marc Lanthier, Commander, Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre;

Paul LaRose-Edwards, Executive Director.

Major-General Lanthier made a statement and, together with Lieutenant-Colonel Healey, answered questions.

At 11:01 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:07 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Andersson-Charest and Mr. LaRose-Edwards each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 11:59 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 1:03 p.m., the committee resumed.

General Vance made a statement and, together with Lieutenant-General Whitecross, answered questions.

At 2:16 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:20 p.m., the committee resumed.

Commodore Santarpia made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:51 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:32 p.m., the committee resumed.

Brigadier-General (Ret'd) Giguère and Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret'd) Selkirk each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 4:34 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 4:38 p.m., the committee, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), resumed in camera for the consideration of a draft agenda (future business).

At 5:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
