The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met in camera this day at 12 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Gwen Boniface, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Dagenais, Gold, McIntyre, Oh, Pratte and Richards (7).

In attendance: Ariel Shapiro and Isabelle Lafontaine-Émond, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Stav Nikta, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, January 28, 2016, the committee began its study on the services and benefits provided to members of the Canadian Forces; to veterans; to members and former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and their families.

TOPIC: Study on Cannabis Use for Medical Purposes by Canadian Veterans.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.

It was agreed, that senator's staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera meeting.

It was agreed, that the committee allow the transcription of today's meeting, that one copy be kept with the clerk on the committee for consultation by committee members or staff present, and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of the parliamentary session.

It was agreed that the draft report be adopted and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.

At 12:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
