The Committee of Selection met this day at 10:30 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-13 of the Rules of the Senate, to organize the activities of the committee.
[English]
Blair Armitage, Clerk of the Committee: Honourable senators, I see a quorum.
As clerk of your committee, are there any nominations for the position of chair of this committee?
Senator Mercer: I nominate Senator Plett.
Mr. Armitage: Are there any other nominations?
It is moved by the Honourable Senator Mercer that the Honourable Senator Plett do take the chair.
Is it agreed, honourable senators?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
Mr. Armitage: Senator Plett, please take the chair.
Senator Donald Neil Plett (Chair) in the chair.
The Chair: Thank you very much for that.
We will move on to two other items on our agenda. We’ll go to Item No. 3, if that’s acceptable. We’ll adopt that one first before we go to Item No. 2.
Could we have a motion that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be composed of the chair and two deputy chairs? Thank you, Senator Wallin.
Are we all in agreement?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
The Chair: We will then go to the election of two deputy chairs. Could I have a nomination for the first one?
Senator Tkachuk: I nominate Senator Mercer.
Senator Woo: I move Senator Omidvar.
The Chair: Are there any other nominations?
Senator Tkachuk: I move that nominations close.
The Chair: Thank you.
Are we all in agreement with that?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
The Chair: Thank you very much.
Senator Frum, you’re just in time for the adjournment.
That is the business for the entire committee. If I could ask Senator Mercer and Senator Omidvar to stay for two or three minutes, I would appreciate that.
(The committee adjourned.)
