The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 7:59 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buth, Callbeck, Eaton, Maltais, Mercer, Mockler, Oh, Plett, Rivard and Tardif (10).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 16, 2011, the committee continued its consideration of research and innovation efforts in the agricultural sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers:

George Gilversy, General Manager.

Solidarité rurale du Québec:

Claire Bolduc, Président.

Mr. Gilversy made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:03 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:05 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Bolduc made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed that the submission from Solidarité rurale du Québec be distributed despite only being available in French and that the translation be distributed when it is available.

At 9:44 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:47 a.m., the committee resumed in camera.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded to consider a draft report.

At 10:02 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
