The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day, at 4:25 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Campbell, Gerstein, Greene, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Maltais, Massicotte, Moore, Nancy Ruth, Oliver, Ringuette and Tkachuk (12).

In attendance: Brett Stuckey and Adriane Yong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 6, 2013, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-48, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act, the Excise Tax Act, the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act, the First Nations Goods and Services Tax Act and related legislation.

WITNESSES:

Chartered Professional Accountants Canada:

Richard Monk, Advisor.

Canadian Tax Foundation:

Wayne Adams, Director of Membership Development and Community Relations.

Michael Vineberg, Senior Partner.

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP:

Andrew Kingissepp, Partner, Tax Department.

The chair made an opening statement.

Ms. Presseault, Mr. Monk and Mr. Adams each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:14 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:17 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Vineberg and Mr. Kingissepp each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:48 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
