The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 1 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, De Bané, P.C., Finley, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., McInnis, Nancy Ruth and Smith (Saurel) (12).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Édison Roy-César, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, the committee continued its examination of the subject-matter of Bill C-45, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures.

WITNESSES:

Department of Finance Canada:

Ted Cook, Senior Legislative Chief;

Shawn Porter, Director, Tax Legislation;

Ian Pomroy, Senior Tax Policy Officer, Social Tax Policy;

Geoff Trueman, Director, Business Income Tax.

Mr. Cook made a statement and, together with Mr. Porter, Mr. Pomroy and Mr. Trueman, answered questions.

At 3:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
