The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day in room 9, Victoria Building, at 5 p.m., the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, De Bané, P.C., Fortin- Duplessis, McIntyre, Mockler, Poirier, Robichaud, P.C., and Tardif (9).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, March 25, 2013, the committee continued its study of best practices for language policies and second-language learning in a context of linguistic duality or plurality. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 18.)

WITNESS:

Jocelyne Lalonde, Executive Director.

Ms. Lalonde made a presentation and answered questions.

At 6:22 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:25 p.m., the committee resumed in camera.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).

At 6:41 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:42 p.m., the committee resumed in public to consider a draft budget.

After debate, it was agreed that the following special study budget application on best practices for language policies and second-language learning in a context of linguistic duality or plurality for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, with the adjustments reflected from this meeting and following a final review by the Senate administration that will be overseen by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
