The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day, in camera, at 6:50 p.m., in room 356-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable David P. Smith, P.C. (Cobourg), presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, Comeau, Fraser, Furey, Joyal, P.C., Meighen, Plett, Smith, P.C. (Cobourg), and Stratton (9).

In attendance: Till Heyde, Chamber Operations Clerk; and Sebastian Spano and Andre Barnes, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.

In accordance with rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

It was moved that:

A subcommittee composed of the Honourable Senators Braley, Comeau, Furey, Joyal, P.C., and Stratton be appointed to review provisions in the Rules of the Senate relating to leaves of absence and suspensions.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 8:27 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
