The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:29 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Day, Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Martin, Merchant, Mockler, Ogilvie, Peterson, Seidman, Seth and Verner, P.C. (12).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament and David Charbonneau, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 26, 2012, the committee began its study on Bill S-204, An Act to establish a national strategy for chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI).
WITNESSES:
The Honourable Senator Jane Cordy, sponsor of the bill.
Kirsty Duncan, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-North.
Canadian Institutes of Health Research:
Dr. Alain Beaudet, President.
Canadian Institute for Health Information:
John Wright, President and Chief Executive Officer;
Jean-Marie Berthelot, Vice-President, Programs;
Ann Chapman, Manager, Canadian Multiple Sclerosis Monitoring System.
Public Health Agency of Canada:
Rodney Ghali, Acting Senior Director, Partnerships and Strategies Division.
The chair made a statement.
Ms. Duncan and Senator Cordy each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 11:28 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 11:31 a.m., the committee resumed.
Dr. Beaudet, Mr. Ghali and Mr. Wright each made a statement and, together with Mr. Berthelot and Ms. Chapman, answered questions.
At 12:27 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
