The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:33 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Dawson, Demers, Downe, Fortin-Duplessis, Housakos, Jaffer, Johnson, Oh, Smith, P.C. (Cobourg) and Verner, P.C. (12).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn, James Lee and June Dewetering, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 21, 2013, the committee continued its study on security conditions and economic developments in the Asia-Pacific region, the implications for Canadian policy and interests in the region, and other related matters. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines to Canada:

Eric Gerardo Tamayo, Chargé d'Affaires and Minister and Consul General;

Porfirio Mayo, Jr., First Secretary and Consul;

Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, Minister and Consul.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Tamayo made a statement, and together with Mr. Mayo and Ms. Mayo, answered questions.

At 5:34 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:36 p.m., the committee resumed in camera.

It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).

At 6:09 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
