The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:17 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Cordy, Dawson, Downe, Eaton, Fortin-Duplessis, Johnson and Oh (9).

In attendance: James Lee, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Karen Schwinghamer, Communications Officer.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 21, 2013, the committee continued its study to examine such issues as may arise from time to time relating to foreign relations and international trade generally. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10.)

WITNESSES:

Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada:

Sabine Nolke, Director General, Non-Proliferation and Security Threat Reduction;

Carol McQueen, Director, Gulf States Relations Division;

Peter Cahill, Senior Policy Officer (Nuclear Compliance), Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Division.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Nolke and Ms. McQueen made statements and, together with Mr. Cahill, answered questions.

At 5:19 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
