The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day, at 6:01 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buth, Dagenais, Eaton, Maltais, Mercer, Merchant, Mockler, Ogilvie, Oh, Robichaud, P.C., and Tardif (11).

In attendance: Jed Chong and Aïcha Coulibaly, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 21, 2013, the committee continued its consideration of the importance of bees and bee health in the production of honey, food and seed in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Shelly Hoover, Apiculture Research Scientist, Agriculture and Rural Development (by video conference).

Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority:

Kareena Arthy, Chief Executive Officer (by video conference);

Les Davies, Chief Regulatory Scientist, Pesticides (by video conference).

Ms. Hoover made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 6:45 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:47 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Arthy made an opening statement and, together with Mr. Davies, answered questions.

At 7:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
