The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:56 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Glen Patterson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dyck, Meredith, Moore, Ngo, Oh, Patterson, Tannas and Wallace (9).

In attendance: Martha Butler, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 27, 2014, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-9, An Act respecting the election and term of office of chiefs and councillors of certain First Nations and the composition of council of those First Nations.

WITNESSES:

Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat:

John G. Paul, Executive Director.

Norway House Cree Nation:

Ronald Evans, Chief.

Mr. Paul made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Evans made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:08 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:15 p.m., the committee resumed in camera.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain during in camera portion of the meeting.

At 9:02 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
