The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 8:33 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Paul J. Massicotte, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Boisvenu, Massicotte, Mitchell, Patterson, Seidman and Sibbeston (7).

In attendance: Marc LeBlanc and Sam Banks, Analysts, Parliamentary Information Research and Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, the committee continued its study on non-renewable and renewable energy development including energy storage, distribution, transmission, consumption and other emerging technologies in Canada's three northern territories. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 10.)

WITNESSES:

Natural Resources Canada:

Dean Haslip, Director General, CanmetENERGY-Ottawa, Innovation and Energy Technology Sector;

Laura Oleson, Director, Demand Policy and Analysis, Office of Energy Efficiency, Energy Sector;

Drew Leyburne, Director General, Energy Policy Branch, Energy Sector;

Anoop Kapoor, Director, Renewable and Electrical Division.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Haslip, Ms. Oleson and Mr. Leyburne made a statement.

Mr. Kapoor made a statement.

The witnesses answered questions.
