The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 6:30 p.m., in the Fundy Room, Crown Plaza Hotel, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Lovelace Nicholas, Manning, Meredith, Poirier and Stewart Olsen (5).

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Mi'kmaq Confederacy of Prince Edward Island:

Randy Angus, Director, Integrated Resource Management.

Dr. Backman and Mr. Forward made statements and answered questions.

At 7:18 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:23 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Plouffe, Ms. House and Mr. Szemerda made statements and answered questions.

At 8:12 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:22 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Angus made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:44 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
