The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:13 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Merchant, Ogilvie, Seidman, Stewart Olsen and Wallace (8).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliament Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, the committee began its study of Bill C-442, An Act respecting a Federal Framework on Lyme Disease.
WITNESSES:
Elizabeth May, Member of Parliament for Saanich—Gulf Islands, sponsor of the bill.
Canadian Lyme Disease Foundation:
Jim Wilson, President and Founder.
Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Canada:
Dr. Daniel Gregson, President;
Dr. William Bowie, Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, University of British Columbia.
The chair made a statement.
Ms. May made a statement and answered questions.
At 5:07 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:10 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Wilson and Dr. Bowie each made a statement and, together with Dr. Gregson, answered questions.
At 6:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
