The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8:01 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Ghislain Maltais, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bernard, Beyak, Dagenais, Gagné, Maltais, Mercer, Ogilvie, Oh, Petitclerc, Pratte, Tardif and Woo (12).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 9, 2017, the committee continued its study on the potential impact of the effects of climate change on the agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 26.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute:

Ted Bilyea, Chair;

Tulay Yildirim, Director, Policy Research Partnerships.

The Conference Board of Canada:

Louis Thériault, Vice-President, Industry Strategy and Public Policy.

Canadian Meat Council:

Troy Warren, Chair of the Board of Directors;

Ron Davidson, Senior Vice-President, International Trade and Public Affairs.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Bilyea and Mr. Thériault made statements and, together with Ms. Yildirim, answered questions.

At 9:05 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:10 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Warren made a statement and, together with Mr. Davidson, answered questions.

At 9:56 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
