The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Doyle, Dyck, Enverga, Martin, McPhedran, Mégie, Omidvar, Pate, Patterson, Raine, Sinclair, Tannas and Watt (14).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Dupuis (1).
In attendance: Brittany Collier and Sara Fryer, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Kate McCarthy, Stakeholder Outreach Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 15, 2016, the committee continued its study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 16.)

The chair made a statement.
It was agreed that photographers and camera operators be authorized to photograph and videotape today's committee proceedings.
It was agreed that the following special study budget application (Indigenize the Senate Day) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.

Ms. O'Bomsawin, Mr. Puskas, Mr. Kootenhayoo, Ms. Sock, and Ms. McKenzie each made statements and anwered questions.
At 7:48 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:58 p.m., the committee resumed.
Ms. Cardinal, Ms. Monkman, Ms. Andersen, and Mr. Tait each made statements and answered questions.
At 9:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
