The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:06 a.m., in The Rotunda, Neeginan Centre, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Dyck, McCallum, McPhedran and Patterson (5).

In attendance: Brittany Collier and Michael Chalupovitsch, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Siofra McAllister and Jade Thériault, Communications Officers, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December15, 2016, the committee continued its study on the new relationship between Canada and First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 16.)

Manitoba Association of Friendship Centres:

Roberta MacKinnon, President;

Ryan Paradis, Executive Director.

Manitoba Inuit Association:

Fred Ford, President and Board Chair;

Rachel Dutton, Executive Director.

Youth Parliament of Manitoba:

Adrienne Tessier, Premier;

Garry McLean, Elder.

National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation:

Ry Moran, Director.

Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre:

Damon Johnston, Board Member.

The chair made a statement.

It was agreed to allow Senate Communications staff to film during the meeting.

Ms.MacKinnon and Mr.Paradis each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:07 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:16 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr.Ford and Ms.Dutton each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:20 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:33 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms.Tessier, Mr.McLean, Mr.Moran and Mr.Johnston each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
