The Special Senate Committee on the Arctic met this day at 9:02 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Patricia Bovey, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Anderson and Bovey (2).

In attendance: Sara Fryer and Thai Nguyen, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, the committee continued its study of the significant and rapid changes to the Arctic, and impacts on original inhabitants. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

As individuals:

Eirik Sivertsen, Member of Parliament, Chair of the Standing Committee of the Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region, Stortinget (by video conference);

Bjørn Willy Robstad, Senior Advisor, International Department, Office of Eirik Sivertsen, MP.

WWF-Canada:

Paul Crowley, Vice President, Arctic.

International Logistical Support Inc. (ILS):

Les Klapatiuk, President.

New North Networks:

Paul A. Komaromi, Projects Manager.

The deputy chair made a statement.

Mr. Sivertsen made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:57 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:59 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Crowley made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:44 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:53 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Klapatiuk made a statement and, together with Mr.Komaromi, answered questions.

At 11:32 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the deputy chair.
