The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:31 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable David Tkachuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Carignan, P.C., Day, Enverga, Maltais, Massicotte, Moncion, Ringuette, Tannas, Tkachuk, Unger, Wallin and Wetston (13).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Olivier Leblanc-Laurendeau, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its study on the present state of the domestic and international financial system. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.) (Topic: Credit unions and the use of the word "banking'')

WITNESSES:

Canadian Credit Union Association:

Athana Mentzelopoulos, Vice President, Government Relations;

Marc-André Pigeon, Assistant Vice President, Financial Sector Policy.

Desjardins Group:

Bernard Brun, Director, Government Relations.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Mentzelopoulous and Mr. Brun each made a statement and, together with Mr. Pigeon, answered questions.

At 11:53 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
