The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Bob Runciman, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Boisvenu, Boniface, Dagenais, Dupuis, Griffin, Lankin, P.C., McIntyre, Pate, Runciman and White (11).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 11, 2017, the committee began its study of the document entitled Proposals to correct certain anomalies, inconsistencies and errors and to deal with other matters of a non-controversial and uncomplicated nature in the Statutes of Canada and to repeal certain Acts and provisions that have expired, lapsed or otherwise ceased to have effect.

Mélanie Beaudoin, Legislative Counsel, Legislative Service Branch, Public Law and Legislative Services Sector.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada:

Dominique D'Allaire, Director, Corporate, Insolvency and Competition Directorate.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Khanna made a statement and, together with Ms. Yost, Ms. Beaudoin, Mr. Bélanger and Mr. D'Allaire, answered questions.

At 4:58 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:01 p.m., the committee resumed.

Debate.

At 5:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
