The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:32 a.m., room W120, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Boehm, Day, Deacon (Ontario), Duncan, Eaton, Forest-Niesing, Klyne, Marshall, Massicotte and Mockler (11).

In attendance: Alex Smith and Shaowei Pu, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 2, 2019, the committee continued its study of the subject matter of all of Bill C-97, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 19, 2019 and other measures. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 95.)

The chair made an opening statement and informed the committee of a vacancy in one of the two deputy chair positions of the committee. He proceeded to the election.

It was moved by the Honourable Senator Eaton that the Honourable Senator Day be elected deputy chair of the committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Mr. Hinds, Ms. Lauzon and Mr. Miller each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:33 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:37 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. St-Onge, Mr. Crevier and Professor Brin each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
