The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met in camera this day at 5:05 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Claudette Tardif, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cormier, Gagné, Jaffer, Maltais, McIntyre, Mégie, Mockler, Moncion and Tardif (9).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Geneviève Sicard, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, the committee continued its study on the challenges associated with access to French-language schools and French immersion programs in British Columbia. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.

It was agreed that the draft report on the committee's study on the challenges associated with access to French- language schools and French immersion programs in British Columbia be adopted, as amended, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to approve the final version of the report taking into account the changes discussed today.

It was agreed that the following budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018, in relation to a special study on access to French-language schools and French immersion programs in British Columbia be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded to consider a draft agenda (future business).
