The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5:01 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Rose-May Poirier, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Cormier, Gagné, Maltais, McIntyre, Mégie, Moncion and Poirier (8).

In attendance: Maxime Fortin, Clerk, Committees Directorate; Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 6, 2017, the committee continued its study of Canadians' views about modernizing the Official Languages Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

WITNESSES:

Association des collèges et universités de la francophonie canadienne:

Lise Bourgeois, Co-Chair of the ACUFC and President of Collège La Cité;

Lynn Brouillette, Acting Director General;

Commission nationale des parents francophones:

Véronique Legault, President;

Jean-Luc Racine, Executive Director.

The deputy chair made a statement.

The Honourable Senator Maltais moved the adoption of the following motion:

It is agreed that the committee adopt the transcription of the round table held Friday, September 8, 2017, in room 9, Victoria Building, and that the work done at that time be considered a part of the committee's work done under its order of reference on the modernization of the Official Languages Act.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Ms. Legault, Mr. Racine, Ms. Bourgeois and Ms. Brouillette made statements and answered questions.

At 6:34 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
