The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:02 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Gold, Greene, Manning, McInnis, Munson, Plett, Poirier, Ringuette and Watt (10).

In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 23, 2017, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-238, An Act to amend the Fisheries Act and the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act (importation of shark fins). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 23.)

WITNESSES:

Environment and Climate Change Canada:

Basile van Havre, Director General, Domestic and International Biodiversity Policy, Canadian Wildlife Service;

Sheldon Jordan, Director General, Wildlife Enforcement Directorate.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada:

Randy Jenkins, Acting Senior Director, Integrated Resource Management;

Brian Lester, Assistant Director, Integrated Resource Management;

Nadia Bouffard, Director General, External Relations.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Jenkins made a statement and, together with Mr. Lester and Ms. Bouffard, answered questions.

Mr. van Havre made a statement and, together with Mr. Jordan, answered questions.

At 6:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
