The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 1:03 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, P.C., Dagenais, Jaffer, Kenny, Lang, Oh and White (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Moore (1).

In attendance: Dominique Valiquet and Katherine Simonds, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on April 14, 2016, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-205, An Act to amend the Canada Border Services Agency Act (Inspector General of the Canada Border Services Agency) and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

APPEARING:

The Honourable Ralph Goodale, P.C., M.P., Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

The chair made a statement.

Minister Goodale made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:58 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:06 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 21, 2016, the committee began its study on issues related to the Defence Policy Review presently being undertaken by the government.
