The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, for the purpose of holding its reorganization meeting, pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, 2017.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Boniface, Brazeau, Dagenais, Doyle, Griffin, McIntyre and Richards (8).
In attendance: Daniel McBryde and Constance Naud-Arcand, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, 2017, the clerk presided over the election of the chair.
The Honourable Senator Dagenais moved:
That the Honourable Senator Boniface do take the chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The clerk invited Senator Boniface to take the chair.
The chair presided over the election of two deputy chairs.
The Honourable Senator McIntyre moved:
That the Honourable Senator Dagenais be deputy chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Griffin moved:
That the Honourable Senator Kenny be deputy chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Boisvenu moved:
That the Subcommittee of Agenda and Procedure be composed of the chair and two deputy chairs; and
That the subcommittee be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee with respect to its agenda, to invite witnesses, and to schedule hearings.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 12:06 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
