The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:17 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Merchant, Nancy Ruth, Ogilvie, Raine, Seidman and Stewart Olsen (8).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Omidvar (1).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Silvina Danesi, procedural clerk, Senate Committees Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, the committee continued its study on the issue of dementia in our society. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue no.2.)

WITNESSES:

Ontario Retirement Communities Association:

Laurie Johnston, Chief Executive Officer.

Alberta Seniors Communities & Housing Association (ASCHA):

Irene Martin-Lindsay, Executive Director (by video conference).

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Johnston and Ms. Martin-Lindsay each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:46 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
