The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:16 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eggleton, P.C., MacDonald, Marshall, Merchant, Munson, Nancy Ruth, Ogilvie, Raine, Seidman and Stewart Olsen (10).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Dean (1).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; and Jessica Richardson, Procedural Clerk.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, the committee began its study on Bill C-210, An Act to amend the National Anthem Act (gender).
WITNESSES:
The Honourable Senator Nancy Ruth, Sponsor of the bill.
As an individual:
Ramona Lumpkin, President and Vice-Chancellor, Mount Saint Vincent University (by video conference);
Kristen Kit, Athlete, Rowing Canada Aviron.
The chair made a statement.
