The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:14 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Peter M. Boehm, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boehm, Coyle, Deacon (Ontario), Gerba, Greene, Greenwood, Harder, P.C., Housakos, MacDonald, Ravalia, Richards and Woo (12).

Participating in the meeting: Nadia Faucher and Brian Hermon, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. (Topic: Canada’s commitments and obligations under the United Nations)

Global Affairs Canada:

The Honourable Robert Rae, P.C., Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations in New York (by videoconference);

Emi Furuya, Director General, International Organizations;

Johanna Kruger, Director, United Nations Bureau.

The Honourable Robert Rae made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:18 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:21 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. (Topic: Humanitarian Situation in Gaza)
