The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples met this day at 4:34 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable David M. Arnot, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Coyle, Dalphond, Greenwood, Hartling, LaBoucane-Benson, Patterson (Nunavut) and Sorensen (8).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Cotter (1).
Participating in the meeting: Brittany Collier and Sara Fryer, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, the committee began its examination of Bill C-51, An Act to give effect to the self-government treaty recognizing the Whitecap Dakota Nation / Wapaha Ska Dakota Oyate and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

At 6:07 p.m., the committee resumed.
The minister made a statement.
At 6:15 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:53 p.m., the committee resumed in room B45, Senate of Canada Building.
With leave and pursuant to rule 12-20(4), it was agreed that the committee dispense with clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-51, and that the bill be reported, without amendment, to the Senate at the earliest opportunity.
At 6:53 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
