The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples met this day at 9 a.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Brian Francis, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Audette, Coyle, Francis, Hartling, Sorensen and Tannas (7).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Prosper (1).

Participating in the meeting: Sara Fryer and Robert Mason, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 26, 2023, the committee continued its examination of the federal government’s constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and any other subject concerning Indigenous Peoples. Siksika Nation:

Marsha Wolf Collar, Minor Chief (by videoconference);

Lou Ann Solway, Minor Chief (by videoconference).

Manitoba Métis Federation:

William Goodon, Minister of Housing and Property Management.

Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee) and Cree Nation Government:

Mandy Gull-Masty, Grand Chief.

Neil Sharp Adze Jr., Minor Chief Marsha Wolf Collar and Minor Chief Lou Ann Solway each made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:56 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:02 a.m., the committee resumed.

William Goodon and Grand Chief Mandy Gull-Masty each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:49 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
