The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5:04 p.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable René Cormier, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Clement, Cormier, Dalphond, Gagné, Mégie, Mockler and Moncion (7).
Participating in the meeting: Marie-Ève Hudon, analyst, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 9, 2023, the committee continued its study on minority-language health services.
WITNESSES:
Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario:
Fabien Hébert, President;
Peter Hominuk, Executive Director.
Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique:
Lily Crist, Chair of the Board of Directors (by videoconference).
Office of the Ontario Ombudsman:
Carl Bouchard, Interim French Language Services Commissioner.
Fabien Hébert and Lily Crist each made a statement and, together with Peter Hominuk, answered questions.
At 6 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:03 p.m., the committee resumed.
Carl Bouchard made a statement and answered questions.
At 6:49 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:53 p.m., pursuant to rule 12‑16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that senators’ staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.
At 7:07 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
