The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9:05 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Busson, Cordy, Kutcher, Manning, McPhedran, Patterson (Ontario) and Quinn (7).

Participating in the meeting: Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, February 24, 2023, the committee continued its examination of the government response to the fourth report of the Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans, tabled with the Clerk of the Senate on July 12, 2022.

WITNESSES:

Fisheries and Oceans Canada:

Niall O'Dea, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy;

Adam Burns, Assistant Deputy Minister, Aquatic Ecosystems and Fisheries Management;

Doug Wentzell, Regional Director General, Maritimes Region (by videoconference);

Sylvain Vézina, Regional Director General, Quebec Region (by videoconference);

Serge Doucet, Regional Director General, Gulf Region (by videoconference).

Niall O’Dea made a statement and, together with Adam Burns and Doug Wentzell, answered questions.

At 10:18 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
