The Standing Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Veterans Affairs met this day at 4 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Tony Dean, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Dean, Duncan, Oh, Richards and Yussuff (6).

Participating in the meeting: Ariel Shapiro and Anne-Marie Therrien-Tremblay, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study of issues relating to security and defence in the Arctic.

WITNESSES:

Government of Yukon:

The Honourable Sandy Silver, Premier of Yukon.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police:

Superintendent Lindsay Ellis, Criminal Operations Officer, ‘M’ Division;

Sean McGillis, Executive Director, Federal Policing.

Canada Border Services Agency:

Denis R. Vinette, Vice-President, Travellers Branch.

The Honourable Sandy Silver made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:19 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:30 p.m., the committee resumed.

Superintendent Lindsay Ellis and Denis R. Vinette each made a statement and, together with Sean McGillis, answered questions.

At 6:34 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
