National Finance

Mandate

Pursuant to Rule 12-7(7), the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance has the mandate to examine matters relating to federal estimates generally, including the public accounts, reports of the Auditor General and government finance. The committee examines legislation related to the government’s financial cycle. Most notably, the committee reviews budget implementation and economic statement bills, among others, every fiscal year. In addition, the committee studies matters related to the financial cycle, such as the Main Estimates and Supplementary Estimates (A), (B) and (C) for the current fiscal year. In addition, the committee investigates other topics, such as the COVID-19 crisis and the Phoenix pay system.
