The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met this day at 8:32 a.m. for the election of the chair and for the consideration of administrative matters.
[English]
Nicole Proulx, Clerk of the Committee: Honourable senators, there is quorum. As clerk of your committee, it is my duty to preside over the election of the chair.
[Translation]
I am ready to receive a motion to that effect.
[English]
Senator Downe: I would like to nominate, as the Prime Minister did earlier this week, Senator Housakos. We are of one mind, me and the Prime Minister.
Ms. Proulx: Are there other nominations?
It is moved by the Honourable Senator Percy E. Downe that the Honourable Senator Housakos do take the chair of this committee.
Is it your pleasure, honourable senators, to adopt the motion?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
Ms. Proulx: I declare the motion carried.
Hon. Senators: Hear, hear!
Senator Leo Housakos (Chair) in the chair.
The Chair: Thank you very much, colleagues. I see we have a short agenda here today. Is there anything else besides the election of the chair today?
Ms. Proulx: No, there isn't anything.
Senator Downe: I have other business when we go in camera about a caucus discussion, chair.
The Chair: We are not in camera right now.
Senator Downe: No, I know that, but when we do go in camera.
The Chair: Does anyone have any questions or any other issues we need to address this morning?
Senator Downe: I have a caucus issue so perhaps we could go in camera on that. I'll be brief unless there is a long discussion about it.
(The committee continued in camera).
